Jude 3

Text

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

Observation/ Meaning

Jude wanted to write about the salvation, but he was also drawn to write about something else that was very important to him. This something else is the call to Christians to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. This implies that many in the church were not upholding the objective truths passed down from the Apostles. In fact, they strayed from the truth. The word “contend” is a strong word that denotes a “struggle for”. Considering the world’s desire to overpower Truth, doing so will not be easy.

Application

What makes you tempted to stray from the truth?

My Reflection: “Every social media post, article, and advertisement tries to lure me away from the truth. Pastors can sometimes bend the truth to cater to their listeners’ needs. (2 Tim 4:3). Father, help me to stand firm in nothing other than the truth that has been once for all delivered to the saints. Since you are unchanging, so are your truths. Christ’s incarnation and death on the cross are unchanging, and this Christmas, we celebrate his unchanging victory over sin.”

Chew on: What makes you tempted to stray from the truth?

How about you?

I utilize the COMA method in my Bible Studies.
