Jude 21

Text

keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.

Observation/ Meaning

Jude gives us five practical ways to take to withstand false teachings. We are to take comfort in the fact that these are already foreknown by God, we are to build up our faith and to pray. Today, Jude gives us another two pointers.

#1. We are to keep ourselves in the love of God. It is critical to understand this, since we often find love outside of God. This can be in our career, possessions or even relationships.

#2. We are to wait. Christians wait for the second coming of Christ, or if they pass away before that, they will see Jesus face to face. Our waiting is unique in the sense that we wait for something that is guaranteed to happen, which is the second coming of Christ.

Application

How are we waiting? Are we waiting while being in the love of God or do we find ourselves looking for love outside of God whilst we wait for His coming?

My Reflection:

“This verse made me take a hard look at myself. Am I truly waiting in the love of God? Oftentimes, I find myself fighting against my own fleshy desires to find joy in the gifts that he has given me – my family, career or possessions. Yet this is a solemn reminder that I need to keep myself in the love of God and not in my possessions as they will fade with the grass. This Christmas, I pray that God will help me wait faithfully in Him, rooting me in Mis love and His mercy.”

How about you?

I utilize the COMA method in my Bible Studies.
